Cheyenne state park is on the southern edge of Colorado Springs.
The park sits up on a bluff overlooking Fort Carson. A rather pretty camp site at
the foot hills of the Rocky Mountains overlooking the Colorado plain to the
east.

Day 51 – Aug 26 Walk in Moraine Meadow to see a large bull Elk
Today we went to the Moraine Meadow for a stroll on one of the
trails.
We met a group of park workers who were spraying the Canadian thistles.
They told us a rather large bull Elk down the trail a mile or so, then a large
herd a big further down the trail.
We found the bull, but the herd had headed
up the canyon before we could catch up. So, we rested up a bit and headed back
down the trail.
Day 50 – Aug 25 Day at the camp, swimming, min golf, laundry
A day of rest and relaxation ( and a bit of housekeeping) at the park
Day 49 – Aug 24 Took RMN Park shuttle to Bear Lake
Today we spent taking the day with lunch at a small lake
followed by a hike around it, then taking the RMNP shuttle to Bear Lake and
hiking around it.
Back home to soak the feet…
Day 48 – Aug 23 RMNP Drive on Fall River Drive to the Alpine Visitors Center
Today’s adventure was a drive up the Fall River road to the Alpine Visitors Center. The road is a gravel one way only drive up to the top of the park. This route is a whole lot less traveled and much more scenic than the main road.
Once at the top we took the climb to the sky, a rather step
trail to the top of the mountain. Good thing we came down when we did as the
sky opened up shortly after we got back to the visitors center.
It gave us a
chance to have our first truck picnic.
Day 47 – Aug 22 Arrived Estes Park Co, at the local Jellystone RV park
We called the park looking for a reservation once we were
about half way to Estes Park only to be told they were full due to the bicycle
races, something about the 2013 USA Pro Challenge cycling race coming through
town. We had but a few minutes to mull it over before the park called back to
say they had just received a cancellation.
That was a close one…
