We headed off for a trek up Pikes Peak, the easy way, up the cog rail road.
It’s quite a pretty view from the 14,000 foot summit. It’s not the highest peak in Colorado but is the first one the settlers could see when coming in from the east thus became a trail marker.
Dinner that evening was in Manitou Springs at the foot of
the cog rail road. The little mountain town had just suffered though a major
flood the week or so before we got there. It sounds like they were hit again with the
latest round of floods. The summer burn made the runoff even worse that it
might have been.
After dinner we drove back through the Garden of the Gods, a
city park of sorts with lots of rock formations. The park is pretty during
sunset.
