Day 28 Aug 3 - A mid Minnesota summer festival

In looking for something to do today we had a choice of a couple of local small town festivals. One 17 miles to the south, the other 14 miles to the north. We opted for the closer one, Heritage Days in Albany.

Leroy's home town school played against Albany at times in the usual high school sports and we would pass by the town when we went up to Long Prairie but it has been several years since stopping in.

They had a bean bag contest, a pedal tractor pull for the kids, a firemans battle, parade and fireworks.. A nice small town affair.

The bean bag toss off was still going strong when we left 3 hours later, they had a large number of contestants vying for the $400 first prize.

Rosalie volunteered to enter the tractor pedal pull. Her first ever as far as we know. This is a small version of the standard tractor pull. Kids on pedal tractors that are pulling small trailers that contain weights that are pulled closer to the tractor as the kids get further down the course. Just like the big boys. The top three would go on to state competition later in the year. We could tell some of the four year olds were old hat at this competition. Rose did well but alas we will not be returning in Sept for the state contest. unfortunately the pictures did not turn out.
